CHARACTERISTICS OF A LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE ID
California law requires legally acceptable forms of identification (ID) to have these characteristics:
- Issued by a government agency.
- Contains the name, date of birth, photograph, and physical description of the ID holder. Physical description includes height, weight, eye and hair color, gender, etc.
- A valid expiration date. This means the ID cannot be expired.
Key Fact: Military IDs and government issued passports are valid without a physical description of the cardholder noted on the ID. However, the IDs must still contain the other information noted above to be considered valid.
