Scenario #5
Today is your day to monitor the self-checkout line at your grocery store job. As you are helping a customer find a UPC code on their item, you notice another individual, who appears to be in a hurry, carrying a 12 pack of beer and some snacks approaching one of the scanners. The individual looks like she is at least 21 years of age and you’ve seen her shopping here previously, so you know she is a regular customer. However, you never remember needing to card her for the purchase of alcohol in any of your regular checkout lines. As you finish helping the customer who needs assistance with the UPC code, you ponder your next move.
The customer buying the 12 pack of beer is a regular and you do not want to offend or upset if it isn’t necessary. You also think to yourself would a regular customer really try to sneak one by you? You also noticed the customer scanned her store loyalty card; would she have really scanned that card if she were not 21 years of age?
